Why does the weather hate us?

In Early January, when I attended a football game in Chicago, the temperature went as low as -9 degrees. I froze my ass off, and apparently so did the Atlanta Falcons. The temperature soon thereafter proceeded to rise, resulting in all the snow melting, and some record high temps in the past couple weeks.
This past weekend, Kathy and I were going to attend her school faculty's Christmas Winter Party, and it turned out to be the one day in the past three weeks that it snowed. The roads became icy and horrible, and we were unable to go.
Since then? Well, the temps are rising again, and the snow is starting to melt. So apparently bad weather only appears when we have plans of any kind.

...I just wanted to prepare everyone for the record-setting blizzard that will be occurring in approximately three weeks (or earlier, if our child is the impatient type).
